"Training of inspectors in Georgia successful"
13 November 13
Waste policy in Georgia is still under development, while the country is facing large environmental problems due to illegal dumping of waste and unorganised dumpsites, still remaining from the Soviet era. Within this transitional phase, the Georgian environmental inspectorate has a difficult, but above all important role.
During 4 days, experts of Ameco have trained a group of 15 environmental inspectors on international best practices for landfill inspection and on the role the inspectorate can play in the current legislative transition period. As part of the training program, the dumpsite near Borjomi and the recently established sanitary landfill of Tbilisi were visited.
Ameco is currently developing guidelines for landfill inspection in the form of a practical manual.
